About Pet Food

What's In It?

Did you know that in most dog and cat food [and treats] the first and primary ingredients are wheat flour and corn grain? Did you also know that wheat is something they should not have and corn has little value? Unlike our feathered friends who tend to devour Farmer Bob's corn and wheat fields, this is not the case for dogs and cats.

Read the ingredients. The first ingredient listed is what the products contains most of. If it is wheat flour, your dog or cat is eating mostly flour.

Soy is also something dogs should not have.

Dogs and cats do not digest these grains like farm animals and avian pets digest them. Along with wheat, other ingredients in many pet food products are generically referred to as "byproducts." So the consumer reads chicken byproducts and assumes that the dry or canned food has chicken in it.

Well, it does. But what parts of that chicken? Everything that is not approved by the FDA for human consumption is fair game for the pet food industry. Considering that some people question what goes into people food, this byproduct must not be at the bottom of the scale, but under it! Truth be told, people food contains byproducts too.

Byproduct can mean anything from chicken beaks to feathers to bones to eyes. It may also mean a dead and diseased animal that could not be used as human food. NOTHING is wasted..

Is this really what you want your pampered pooch or precious kitty consuming?

With this in mind, is it no wonder that we are spending thousands of dollars on vet bills and medication for our pets? Dogs and cats should NOT have diabetes, skin issues, heart disease, or Cancer! But with wheat gluten especially that is not natural to the dog or cat's system, this is what is happening. It manifests itself in eventual disease and/or a shorter life expectancy.

The pet food products that you find in the chain stores, or even those promoted by veterinarians, have a common denominator. They all get their wheat gluten ingredients from the same source, so it is all starts out the same no matter what brand or what store. This is also why when one pet food is recalled, many others follow.

There are other choices out there that you can find with little effort, and it does not have to cost a fortune. The advantage being that your cat and dog can be fed less in quantity because it is better in quality, digested properly, and there is less pooper scooping too! The bigger picture is a healthier pet and longer life.

Through the years we have experimented with different ideas about keeping our own pets healthy. We have developed our own home made recipes, as well as doing research and finding the best for our personal use.

Wheat flour shows up in just about all dog treats unless you buy something that is "truly" organic. It's the first ingredient listed so we know that the product is made up mostly of flour.

We have wheat-free Beef, Chicken, and Peanut Butter flavored dog snacks and more!.

Does your dog like tomatoes? Mine does! She will eat anything that includes tomatoes! We make tomatoe flavored.

True, this alternative is more expensive than a wheat based treat, but the health issues resulting from a wheat based treat far out weigh the cost of our dog treats.

We have a wheat free snack that is corn based, yummy, and less expensive. Corn is a more digestible grain and less likely to cause problems. Corn grain is a filler. It's ok for snacks, but not as a staple in their diet.

[Please note that some pets are allergic to corn]

The Sensative Canine with digestion and skin issues

For the super sensative dog, we use a wheat and corn free flour consisting of one or two types, or a combination of garbanzo flour, rice flour, tapioca flour, white Sorghum flour & fava flour in our specialty 100% gluten free treats.

Wheat-free, Soy-free, no Byproducts or artifical preservatives~ Best keep in freezer until use.
